AEP Begins Construction of Rocky Ford Substation
Contractors officially mobilized February 3, 2025, to begin initial site work efforts for the construction of the Rocky Ford substation which will transmit and distribute the electricity from the Border Basin Solar project.
These initial site work efforts involve establishing control points, mobilizing equipment onsite, constructing erosion and sediment control measures, as well as a construction entrance. The timeline of completion for the Rocky Ford substation is approximately nine months, with energization expected by late September 2025.
Energix Renewables has retained a local drain tile consultant to begin the redesign of the existing drain tile on the entire site. This work commenced in early February 2025 as well. Redesigning and rebuilding the drain tile is vital to complete before any civil construction begins to ensure the site properly drains over the life of the project and so that the site can be returned to full agricultural use in the future.
Civil construction and the preparation for installation of array fields (or solar panel fields) is anticipated to begin during the summer of 2025.
